A follow-up to the VR space “The Infinite Below”, “Time, Above and Below” observes different expressions of time beyond numbers: Through light, the primary medium through which we guide our day when there is no clock present; through aging, exemplified by the contrast between the polished metal and the blackened one; and through daily rituals, the way we turn on the light every evening after sunset. These are the ways in which time comes naturally to us. Meant to be placed by a window to reflect the sky outside and with a light sensor to turn it on when night falls, this piece serves as a sundial of sorts, stripping time to its root and inviting us to allow the flow of the day to occur. Inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, this piece is a statement of acceptance of the uncontrollable nature of time; there is nothing else to do but observe and accept it.
